Transformation Summary

This project replaced the front yard landscape with a custom travertine paver patio to create a high-end, functional outdoor living area. The natural stone warm-toned travertine directly complements the white brick exterior and black-framed windows, delivering an elegant hardscape space built for low maintenance and longevity.

  • Walkthrough & Design Planning

Site assessment and drainage mapping.Evaluated existing soil composition, site slope, and architectural lines to map the patio layout. Verified proper grading away from the home's foundation to prevent water pooling.

Site assessment and drainage mapping.Evaluated existing soil composition, site slope, and architectural lines to map the patio layout. Verified proper grading away from the home's foundation to prevent water pooling.

  • Excavation & Base Preparation:

Critical step for preventing future settling.Excavated 7–9 inches of soil. Installed and compacted a 6-inch crushed gravel sub-base in layers to establish a stable, well-draining foundation.

  • Bedding Layer & Edge Restraints

Ensuring structural stability.Laid a 1-inch bedding layer of coarse sand or polymeric sand. Securely installed heavy-duty edge restraints along the perimeter to lock the patio footprint in place.

  • Travertine Paver Installation

Pattern layout and precision setting.Hand-laid travertine pavers in the selected pattern (e.g., French Pattern or Running Bond), maintaining tight joints. Custom-cut edge pieces to fit precisely against walls, walkways, and existing structures.

  • Joint Filling & Compaction

Locking the pavers together.Swept polymeric or fine jointing sand across the surface to completely fill the gaps between pavers. Lightly compacted and set the sand to prevent weed growth and insect activity.

  • Sealing & Final Clean-Up

Surface protection.Cleaned the travertine surface thoroughly to remove dust and debris, then applied a breathable, stone-penetrating sealer to protect against staining, moisture absorption, and North Texas weather wear.

Key Design Elements

  • Material & Finish: Premium French Pattern or natural-cut travertine pavers with a cool-touch, slip-resistant finish.
  • Drainage Integration: Sub-surface grading built with a subtle slope ($1/4$ inch per foot) directing runoff safely away from the home foundation.
  • Aesthetic Cohesion: Soft stone tones contrasting against dark mulch beds, lush lawn borders, and black architectural trim.
