For this home, the objective was to create a clean, sophisticated landscape that would complement the modern architecture while giving the property a lush and welcoming appearance. The home's white brick exterior, black-framed windows, and mature trees provided a strong architectural foundation, but the surrounding landscape needed the same level of refinement and attention to detail.
Our design focused on creating balance through a combination of fresh lawn, carefully defined landscape beds, and layered plant material. Curved bed lines were introduced to soften the architecture and create a natural transition between the home and lawn, while a thoughtful mix of evergreen shrubs, flowering plants, and contrasting foliage added depth, texture, and year-round visual interest.
The finished landscape frames the home without overwhelming it. Rich green lawn areas, structured plantings, seasonal color, and clean bed lines work together to create a polished front elevation that feels established, inviting, and intentionally designed.
This landscape transformation was approached with careful attention to proportion, plant placement, and the relationship between the home's architecture and surrounding outdoor space. Each phase was planned to create a cohesive finished landscape while supporting healthy growth and long-term maintainability.
- Walkthrough + Landscape Planning
The project began with an evaluation of the property, existing mature trees, architectural features, sunlight conditions, and available planting areas. From there, we developed a landscape plan designed to enhance the home's modern exterior while preserving the natural character provided by the established tree canopy.
Special attention was given to creating balanced planting arrangements on both sides of the entrance and establishing clean transitions between the lawn, walkway, and foundation beds.
- Site Preparation & Bed Layout
Before installation, the landscape areas were prepared to establish a clean foundation for the new design. Planting beds were shaped and defined with flowing curves that soften the straight architectural lines of the home.
These carefully planned bed lines also create separation between the lawn and planting areas, giving the landscape a more intentional and professionally finished appearance.
- Lawn Installation
A lush lawn was established throughout the front landscape to create a continuous green foundation for the design. Careful preparation and installation helped create an even, healthy appearance around the existing trees, walkways, and newly designed planting beds.
The lawn provides an important visual contrast against the home's light exterior and dark landscape beds while creating the fresh, manicured appearance that defines the finished property.
- Layered Plant Installation
The planting design was built around layers of varying heights, textures, and colors. Larger evergreen shrubs provide structure and help frame the home's windows and entrance, while lower-growing shrubs create rhythm and continuity throughout the beds.
Flowering plants were incorporated along the front edges to introduce softer texture and seasonal color. The combination creates visual depth without making the landscape feel crowded, allowing each layer to complement the architecture.
- Landscape Bed Finishing
Once the plant material was installed, the beds received a dark mulch finish that creates a crisp contrast against the green lawn and lighter exterior of the home. The mulch also helps retain soil moisture, moderate soil temperatures, and maintain a cleaner appearance around the plantings.
Defined edging follows the curved bed layout, creating a precise transition between lawn and landscape while reinforcing the flowing design throughout the property.
- Final Detailing & Cleanup
The final phase focused on refining the presentation of the entire landscape. Plant positioning, bed lines, lawn edges, and transitions around the walkways and mature trees were reviewed to ensure a clean and cohesive finish.
